Official inflation in August stands at 0.24%, the highest rate for the month since 2016
Official inflation, measured by the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), was 0.24% in August this year. The result was below the 0.36% in July this year, but it is the highest rate for a month of August since 2016, when it was 0.44%.
According to data released today (9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the IPCA has accumulated inflation rates of 0.70% in the year and 2.44% in 12 months.
In August, inflation was mainly influenced by the increase in the cost of transport (0.82%) and food (0.78%).

Items with the biggest price increases in August
Among the transport items with price increases during the month, the following stand out:
Gasoline (3.22%)
Diesel oil (2.49%)
Ethanol (1.29%)
App-based transportation services (0.37%)
Among the foods, the highlights were:
Tomato (12.98%)
Long life milk (4.84%)
Fruits (3.37%)
Meats (3.33%)
Soybean oil (9.48%)
Rice (3.08%)
Items with price drops in August
On the other hand, there were price drops in items such as:
onion (-17.18%)
garlic (-14.16%)
potato (-12.40%)
carioca beans (-5.85%)
meal away from home (-0.11%).
They also showed deflation (falling prices):
clothing expenses (-0.78%)
personal expenses (-0.01%)
ducation (-3.47%).
